this is a very special opportunity for you to
\nactively participate in saving Beirut\u2019s heritage.<\/p>\n

If you aren\u2019t a member of a rowing team, you probably have never noticed
\nthat there is a small lighthouse on the port side of the BIEL peninsula. In
\nfact you have to go to the very farthest end of the last parking lot at
\nBIEL and take a stairway to the other side of the wall that separates BIEL
\nfrom the port area to reach it. It is said to be the oldest lighthouse in
\nBeirut, built by the French during the 1930s, and is now in terrible
\ncondition. The Rowing Federation that has its headquarters nearby is
\nplanning to have a Rowing Day on June 18th to introduce people in Lebanon
\nto the sport of rowing, and a group of us are trying to fix up the
\nlighthouse for the occasion. You are invited to participate in the project.<\/p>\n

We will have three workdays the coming three Saturdays, with two shifts
\neach day (9 am-1 pm and 3-7 pm):<\/p>\n

\u00b7 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 May 28th — THIS Saturday (scraping old paint off the walls)
\n\u00b7 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 June 4th (plastering to fill all the holes and smooth the rough
\nspots)
\n\u00b7 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 June 11th (painting)<\/p>\n

For this Saturday, all you need to bring is water and a scraper (and
\nprobably a hat and sunscreen). You can either order lunch or go out of the
\narea for lunch (or just be there for one shift).<\/p>\n

Please let me know immediately (and definitely by noon on Friday) if you
\nwant to join us this Saturday. I need to know your name, cell phone number,
\nemail address and which shift(s) you will be there. I think it\u2019s going to
\nbe great fun, and an opportunity to view Beirut from a very special vantage
\npoint.<\/p>\n
